About

We are a bunch of people enthusiastic about direct-deliberative democracy, technology geeks, deliberative philosophers, group facilitators, people who want to make a better world, through dialogue, mutual understanding and reaching agreed decisions through group deliberation.

Although we don’t have a classical hierarchical organization, we do have some people that are taking much of their time and invest in the institute. We will list some of them, for purposes of accountability and communication:

  1. Hi, I’m Janette Hartz-Karp, currently a Prof at Curtin University Western Australia.
I’m not sure how, but you’ve been off my radar in terms of deliberative democracy. DD is also my focus; and I have done some work in Israel with Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva (I can speak Hebrew), as well as in other countries, but mostly I’ve focused on action research in Australia, largely Western Australia.
For over a decade I’ve been working with Brian Sullivan, PracticalEvolution, who lives in San Fran, piloting numerous iterations of an online deliberation platform both for large-scale face-to-face deliberations and solely online. Brian’s last iteration WhatDoWeThink, is almost ready to launch and is really exciting.
I came across your organisation from Willice Onyango from Kenya, who emailed me looking for help with implementing the Youth Manifesto he played a key part in developing. Apparently, he received an invitation to your dd workshop in Dayton Ohio. He asked me what I knew about you and the workshop. Maybe you could give me a bit more info about your organisation and workshop so I’d feel more comfortable advising him to attend.
    All the best, Janette
