Deliberation is affected by the medium which is used during the process. It is also affected by social, cognitional, and emotional phenomena.

The purpose of deliberation is to help a group coordinate, according to [[Values of deliberative-democracy|deliberative values]]. Deliberation creates social object networks ([[SON]]), which help the group communicate with clarity.
